2 weeks ago, while on a brief visit to Lebanon, I got to join U.S. supported organization Heart for Lebanon for a day, on one of their aid distribution trips to a Syrian refugee camp in the Bekaa Valley.
It was an incredible eye-opening experience. I spent my day doing 2 things, translating for an American writer who was writing a book about the refugee families and playing around with the boys that were roaming around the camp. Their situation is pretty dire but the boys were cheerful and had ambitious dreams when it came to their futures. As a photographer it was very satisfying to get the rare opportunity to do some documentary/humanitarian style work, especially with refugees like my family and I were 15 years ago.
